#5 reality check: are skinny jeans in or out?
The legendary four lads in jeans have made it official but what about AW24's indie sleaze skinny jean return?

All is not as it seems at the Birmingham Bullring shopping centre. Where four men once stood – dressed in skintight polyester and denim-elastane blends – we now see a different scene. After a quick re-branding to shop around for a more updated wardrobe, the same men have returned. This time they’ve they've ditched their second-skin trousers for a more spacious alternative. Have they marked the official goodbye to skin tight jeans (and perhaps body hugging, nipple showing polos too?)
The original photo came to surface back in 2019 and since then, a lot has changed. From left to right tagged in the after photo shows bottoms from: Superdry, Arket, Levis and Bershka. Arket would have never ever made it with these lot back in 2019.
But are they really out? Like out out. We’ve seen A LOT of skinny jeans and cover your ears if you’re squeamish… “jeggings” was even seen during an AW24 LFW show. But, ask yourself: is it really a surprise? The indie sleaze renaissance has primed the runway for a revival of Camden-girl chic, drawing inspiration from the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic: think belted, low-rise skinnies, paired with polo shirts and ballet pumps.
Whilst Celine and YSL have always loved the parisian indie sleaze, with super skinny black jeans, Miu Miu and Balenciaga have shown their new found interest in their AW24 collection. And of course, where Miu Miu goes, countless others follow, so it seems we could be hit with a new trend of skinnies. In fact, a raft of new designers are already embracing a slimmer silhouette. There are 17 new-in pairs on-site at Net-A-Porter, while the high-street rails now contain as many skinny styles as they do baggy boyfriend cuts.
I took my journalism seriously and took out to the streets of Shoreditch to ask the public the question - are skinny jeans in or out?
Yes, the majority said skinny jeans are out, and maybe the four lads ditching their skin tight jeans is really the official funeral. But what do you think? Are skinny jeans in or out?
